It soaked into my pee brain that what you posted was on the pages I'd been looking up but that I didn't scroll to the bottom of the page. If you plug in the part #L34451 that table you posted is worthless unless I overlooked something as I see no "Urathane"

TX Jim,
I see what your saying. I noticed if it is a rubber o-ring, it won't
even give the chart I showed. Might be if it is in the HB family, it
shows what the code means as there are different properties for the
different codes. Or it could just be a JD thing that shows up on
some things and not on others.

There is no way that I'd pay $600 for a JD dealership employee to put seals in that steering valve. That's way too much $$$$$

If you sign into their web site and put in the part number (in this
case T25335) it will give the specifications in a box. Below that is a
part diagram and in real fine print it gives a key to what the
materials are. The printing is kinda fuzzy on their web site also.

JD website shows H4B as: Nitrile Elasmer. Doing a Google search I
found this page.

You can order a TM from JD. I personally think the hardest part of resealing the steering valve is installing the 6 larger o-rings in the correct grooves. As previously stated only disassemble the shaft with the valves if absolutely necessary,

Looks like the one on my 2030. Took it apart and some of the shims were damaged. Went to Deere dealer to get parts. It takes some special tools to get the shaft apart and the parts guys talked me into leaving it there for one of the mechanics to look at and shim the valves. Went back to pick it up and when I got the bill I was in shock. The new shims were about $20, time was about one hour, and the total bill was almost $450. I'll never let Deere work on anything for me again. I should have made the tool I needed and done it myself. Best advice I can give is BUY THE DEERE SERVICE MANUAL and do it yourself.

That is what I am afraid of ,one dealer near me would not give me an estimate and wanted me to bring in my tractor to do the job.I have a friend with a ford tractor and he said a shop near him gave him a price of 1000 dollars to over haul the steering column.I am going to look for me a shade tree mechanic and see if he will help me do mine.

MSD

I think you mistyped a numeral.

The part number I saw was L34451 for parts key #4 not L33451

T25335 o-ring 1.45 (6) 2040 calls for L33451. It is the same dimensions but different material and about the same price

material is? Strange they don't sub out also.

Well now after running the 2040 to load it at my farm and bringing it to my home garage i noticed the sterring colum is leaking at the bottom flange. Is this repair very complicated? I am going to have to pull whole column from tractor. I have a over haul manual but what are some things I should be careful about. How much would a jd shop charge to do this job. Franklin

Is your 2040 open or closed center hyds? Normally a parts kit is cheaper than individual part numbers. I noticed the kit has 10 part numbers instead of MSD's 6 part numbers. AT315816 KIT, OVERHAUL ADD 72.86 USD

I didn't change out the o-ring backers and made my own gaskets.
Still cheaper than the kit. JD wanted over $10 for the top seal where
I got it for less than $4.

I just got done resealing a 2020 and it is about the same. Here is my parts list and costs. I made my own gasket which is $4 something from JD. My parts run a little higher because I get them through a construction dealer but he is only 3/4 mile away so it is worth the extra.

F3450R o-ring 4.86 (1)
B3690R o-ring 3.94 (1)
T25335 o-ring 1.45 (6) 2040 calls for L33451. It is the same dimensions but different material and about the same price
U12331 o-ring 3.77 (2)
R26448 o-ring 1.69 (1)
NTL471267 seal 3.93 (1) got this from local bearing shop

Thanks MSD for the information.I may try and do it my self.
I also need to put another seal in my pto shaft. I wonder if pto seal can be bought from auto supply? The one i put i from jd seemed to be a little big and i damaged it putting it in and it is leaking. It was all covered in rubber material and hard to drive in.I recon i needed a special tool to install it?

Unless you see some of the shims peeling out of the valve itself, I wouldn't take it apart. If you do, make real sure you can get it back together the same. You need to get the right shims to get the right clearances. In the half dozen I have done, I only had to work on one valve. Does it steer ok otherwise?
