I got a 37 unstyled a few months ago for a father son project. Some key parts were missing when we got it but have been able to get them for a good price.I have posted questions on here with diffrent problems and advice we have been having.Started out with could not get clutch to snap have all new clutch parts and still wouldn"t work.Determind to much end play in crank moved flywheel in as far as possible still no change in clutch or end play the only thing i know could be warn main bearing witch means crank would have to be replaced. Now is it worth putting anymore money in or anything i can check why have to much end play scrap prices are up right now.I always wanted a unstyle A was in 7th heaven when i got one but having second thoughts about this one. Thanks for all the advice everyone has given me John deere people are the best. Thanks

Pictures would help, but I think you should hang in there and get it going...!!

The clutch should work, if it is assembled correctly, no matter how "worn" the Mains are..

Ron..

if you wind up deciding it is more than you wanna tackle try selling it before scraping it. I too have always wanted an unstyled tractor but havnt found one yet

I agree with Bushog, I would re check your clutch. You just overlooked something simple. Hang in there you will get it going. What did you replace in the clutch. Just the disks? Or everything? Good luck.

hsd to replace everything when i got it the clutch cover was on and when i took it off to check the clutch it was empty. So i had to buy two disk a driver and a ajustment plate i have check and reasembled 2 or 3 times and no change to much end play even tighting up the flywheel confused.I have a 45 A hand start that has end play and clutch works fine.

Even thinking of scrapping the tractor just because "you" can"t figure it out is pretty ridiculous. I"m sure someone near you is capable of figuring it out.

No matter how worn the main bearings are has NO effect on having to replace the crankshaft! You just have it turned true & when the bearings get back from being rebabbitted you size them to the crank. You've got something assembled wrong OR missing.

Please don't scrap a 75 year old 2 cylinder. They're getting hard to find & expensive. Sell it if you must but don't send it to CHINA to make war machines with :'(

alvan. I bought a 35' this summer and yours sounds pretty sweet compared to what I'm working with. Right now I've got it in the storage shed, 3 pallats and the rear end. I don't think there's anything that Isn't stuck on it, needs rear wheels (hope to find steel). But man- what a challenge !!!!

Yes instaled a disk then driver then a nother disk then adjustment plate cant get the snap out of the clutch.thanks for the reply.

i have to tighten nuts up to far to get any clutch at all and then very little clutch. disk are new driver new adjustment plate used but has new springs.

i have a frame two front wheels had to buy head,Mag,Carberator, compleate clutch, and going to get a new radiator if i get it figured out.price was cheep at the time i have 4 new tires but need rear rims could of bought one running for what i have in this one.

Dont know much about 37 unstyled but do know the time you and your son spend together is priceless. The end product will hopefully be worth the work and he will have learned one of lifes greatest lessons that things arent always as easy as you hope for.Sometimes you have to find an older expert on these older tractors that has been there before.Of course my kids are grown and now we have Great Grand kids. But I always wanted them to finish what they started or not start.

I still think there is something simple being overlooked with the clutch problem. Do you have a good manual to go by? I hate that you guys are having so much trouble on your project together. You might holler out and see if there are anyone close to you that would be willing to give you guys a hand on the clutch problem. Dave

Alvin. Can you adjust the rod from the clutch handle to the clutch shorter to allow less play in the clutch? That might give the snap you need. Good luck.

Often times a new aftermarket driver doesn't go on far enough so you need to put 2 disks behind it. Use a worn one & a new one or 2 worn ones etc. Also, if you remove the whole pulley you can look at the T-bolts & dogs to see if worn excessively. There's a bearing & a bushing in therethat need clean grease also.

put it on ebay with a reserve that you have tied up in it anything over that will be money made and you have alot more people telling you what its worth or not worth but Im sure it will be more than scrap price.

Just a thought on the clutch problem, does that clutch have the three pins that you would install the facing disk on? I know the adjusting plate goes on the bolts, make sure you dont have the facing disk on the bolts. Jim
