putiing the head back on my 730 gas. any thing I should know?? I have heard soak gasket in oil, use copper coat gasket spray and also use only a solid copper head gasket!!! The gasket kit came from jd and cost ore than the head work for the machine shop. meaning I only want to do this once. What is the best way to install it? Thanks |

| I agree with mark in iowa. Block surface needs to be as near to spotless as possible |

| Tried a solid copper gasket on my H once, weeped water. Went back to a standard composite gasket and no problems since. I have used copper coat and had no problems. |

| Put the gasket on dry and torque to specs. No other exotic tricks are necessary. In this application anything else will hurt your cause rather than help it. Good, clean surfaces are what are important. Snake oil stickers or soaking are not necessary. Mike

| Soak the gasket in warm water for 30-45 min. If I remember right the ridges go towards the head. I use copper spray, or you can use the brush on type as well. When you get the head on and torqued to specs, get the tractor running and warm it up for an hour or so and then retorque the head again. |

| Make sure the nuts spin freely on the studs. If they don't you will not get the proper torque on them. Also, make sure the gasket is facing the right way. If I remember right, the raised side of the gasket goes toward the block, but I'm not sure. |
