4020_1966 10-12-2012 21:18:47 4.244.208.10 Report to Moderator	Re: 4020 12 volt batt in reply to Co John s, 10-12-2012 07:56:56   Co John s, Look in the 2440 battery thread for my post there on the large single 12v battery I run and guarantee that the 1600 cca battery I have gives me higher cranking voltage (measured at the starter) and faster cranking and more than enough reserve power than I have had with 2 12volt batteries and I never had it slow down in the least cranking my 4020D. The battery was 120$ at teh local farm chain store, I have had it for 2 years now, -10 degrees F did not phase the battery at all when I started it up (and I could not use my block heater so it was totally cold). Run 00 short cables both directly to the starter and you will not be sorry. It is physically larger than 2 of the "skinnies" put together, taller longer and wider. I had 2 high performance skinnies in paralell before this and I can tell a huge differance. Make sure you have a good starter like the 4.0 or 5.0 kw Denso starter. Better batteries on the 2.3kw delco Deere gives you in kits and put on a lot of 12 v engines is like putting perfume on a pig. I put a picture there as well showing my set up. email if you want more information on what I have set up. just keep in mind two batteries means more cables and connections to corrode, more cost in batteries to buy and replace them, more places for problems. I bought one once and I kid you not the battery was a single trolling motor deep cycle, not combo start/cycle but deep cycle and the farmer I bought it from had been using it for several years. I absolutely couldn't believe it after you read what you are fed by the news media about low cranking currents from regular deep cycles. I ran the battery for another year or so before I bought a single 12v series 31 HD OTR truck battery. But I live in N. TX. and winters aren't all that severe. And that's the truth!!!!!!! I went to a single 12 volt in my 70 and it cranks faster and longer. We have cold weather here to, it starts below 0 [Reply]  [No Email]

I know his 4020 is a lot more engine then my 70 is but on my 70 I found the single 12 volt is better then 2 6 volts in series [Reply]  [No Email]

Given all else equal, the more lead and the more plates (about same as more WEIGHT) the more STORED ENERGY. As an example, two light wimpy twelves in paralell may or may not store more energy then two super heavy sixes in series IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH LEAD AND ACID N PLATES.
