The pony motor on 720 smokes really bad. The motor starts and runs good. I have changed diaphrams in auto shutoff that did not help. It does not use oil and plugs dont foul. Also has black oil come out exhaust tube and muffler. Is there anytype oil i can use that will not smoke so bad. Does not hurt anything except smokes building full of smoke. |

The later 720 have the auto shutoff i have replaced the diaphrams made no differance. Replaced the plugs today they were all a little oily but not fouled beyond firing. I guess i will just let her smoke kind of embarassing in public.

You have an "Auto-Shut-off" on your 720..?? No such thing on MINE...????? If that diaphragm involves an oil line, I would suspect it is feeding oil to the fuel.. Your Pony is stated to have something like 10 Wt oil..not positive, but I know it is not supposed to be more than 20 Wt.. Are you sure the Breathers are not plugged..?? Ron..

Try straight 40 weight oil. Is it really firing on four cylinders? The starting engine should be able to rotate the diesel under compression continuously with 0F outside temperatures. Many times I see starting engines at shows that are claimed to be 100% but will only slam start the diesel if your hand eye coordination is quick.

black smoke sounds like too much fuel/not enough air. They are noted for lighter colored exhaust smoke when the engine is worn out i.e. rings. Bill

Your pony motor needs to be overhauled and there is really no way around it.
