Need Help on JD Factory Tank Heater (pic)

My tank heater worked fine until I pressure washed the tractor. Now it trips a breaker the instant I plug it in. I took off the top cover and everything is dry and looks OK. Anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot? Is a new heating element available if burned out? Thanks.

Replacing the element can be tricky... they don't always like to seal, which makes a big mess.

A round one from auto parts or Farm and Fleet will last just as well and not be so prone to leaks. It will also be half the price. It will not, however, look so cool!

A few years ago, my Deere dealer had complete replacements for the Deere heater. THey looked similar, but had no cast in JD.

good luck

A burned out element would not cause the breaker to trip as it would be "open" and current could not flow through it. What you are looking for is a short from hot to ground. Look closely at the wires to make sure they aren't touching anything they aren't supposed to.

If you have a meter, and understand how to read resistance, it should lead you to the problem almost instantly.
