does anyone know the difference between the sidehill feederhouse floor plates and the regular floor plates? is the difference small enough that they can be made to work on the sidehill machine? |

Tim i'm very interested in the improvement's you made. I took the sheets out today and local guy is giving me quote on bending some new ones. Did you just add more reinforcement across the bottom?

Yes, but it"s been a long time since I have thought about them, I"m assuming that you are still running the 5 paddle feeder house,,if you are then you have had trouble with those pesty shaft bearing supports, the 3 bushings holding the bearing flanges,,I came up with a full spacer and welded it into place on the side sheets for one thing, and on the bottom sheets I welded angle iron (with the V down) where I could, we got to drilling and bolting the paddles to the shaft, but you need to be careful not to go too big on the bolt,,the shaft will break, we thought some timing on the paddles helped too, and use the best chain on the drives..I shudder at the thought of all the battles I had with them back then...

I took the floor out of my 5 paddle feederhouse out and took it to a welding shop. The bill was $125. It was bowed and dented from a rock when I bought the combine.

That first feeder house was a very bad design,we sold 7 side hills at the dealership I worked at the first year they came out. I came up with a lot of improvements for them at the time and Deere reps. were at our place a lot back then, trying to work out the bad stuff, some of the things we came up with went into the new design, and Deere made a revised feeder house to replace the paddle house, and offered them at a "very" reasonable price, trying to make amends to the customers. We wore several Sidehills out on our farm, and are receiving a new 670 with a Hill-co kit on it in the next week or so, currently running a 9570 with a Hill-co..

There were 2 different side hill feeder houses used on the 6600, the early ones had 5 paddle shafts , the later ones (which were changed over) had one paddle shaft and a chain, the paddles were very hard on the floor and they were built a bit heaver to stand up to the pounding the paddles gave them, we use to have heavy ones made to toughen them up..
