My experience is only with a 60 so take it for what its worth but can you pull the flywheel side cam bearing houding to check the cam bearing?

Pulled clutch side cover off cam bearing look good but don't understand spring load on cam bearing. flywheel side looks good to. I notice 1 pushrod bearly rubs head but can't feel anything.

The spring on the clutch side pre-loads the bearings on the camshaft to keep the proper position/bearing crush etc. It needs to be in place when you re-assemble the first reduction gear cover. Can you pop the cover and look at your oil pump drive shaft. Are you getting good oil pressure? The cam, cam bearings, races, cam gear, oil pump, oil drive shaft all work as one, so I am just guessing that you have something going on in there not right.

Thanks Fred for reply! I know the spring preloads bearings but the cam gear is beveled gear I think. Why wouldn't they just shim it solid? Anyhow I have good oil pressure, spring is in right. I drove it to other place and will bring it back this winter when I have more time. But still need some more insight on it if anyone has any Ideas. Thanks Doug
