so i decided to check out my old mag and found that as i was holding it and spining it over i could get a tingle in my hand from the coil. was not sure if i should get a tingle or knocked on my $%^& but i got a tingle. but, my question is, how does one replace the impulse spring and get the drive back on all at the same time?? thanks Gary |

| The impulse spring is installed into the drive cup before the drive cup is installed onto the drive end of the armature. With the armature held stationary in a vise, and all the other impulse parts in place, including the slotted washers inside the impulse spring, the drive cup is started onto the shaft, then must be wound a complete turn before being pushed down onto the open spaces on the weight carrier. I use a pair of vise grips on one of the drive lugs so I can wind it around. Then the nut is installed and torqued to 25 ft.lbs. Without a full turn of pre-load, the impulse will not have enough energy to whirl the armature to generate primary voltage to the coil when the impulse trips. Try putting the drive cup on and off without preload first, so you can see how these parts fit together and work together, then go for the preload. |
