3010 Diesel dipstick has a big threaded cap with a tiny set screw in center. That tiny setscrew went awol and a bit of oil came out. I have a hunch that screw threads into the actual stick -I'm kind of hesitant to unscrew the top for fear of dropping the stick down into the pan or ??? Any thoughts? |

| Thanks folks for the knowledge. Unscrewed cap and the stick top was reachable with my longest needle-nosed pliers. Rethreaded, tightened, double-nutted threads showing out the top; looks good, hope I didn't alter the depth. I'd hate to run the old girl a quart low. |

| If you cut new threads it is probably a bit shorter now, you may want to etch a new full mark on the stick to make up the difference... |

| The dipstick screws into the filler cap. I doubt that it can fall all the way, but if it did simply remove the oil filter can and pull it out. |

| That setscrew is the stick of the dip$tick, dip$tick is threaded into the cap and thats the setscrew you see. Find a magnet and start fishing, can't say if it would fall all the way to the bottom or not, might have to drain oil to see it. chris |

| Parts schematic lists no set screw. It also only shows the cap & stick as one part number.
