Is it actually overheating? Or just hot in the block/head.

If the water is hot on both sides of the radiator you may have an obstruction.

Is the timing way out of whack? If you're retarded, you're gonna be hot.

What type of antifreeze is in it?

When I got my '36A it did the same thing running a threshing machine and even got hot doing nothing in the July heat. Turns out the last owner put the red permanent antifreeze in it and it was not boiling and circulating. Put straight water in it and it works right now. May try the water glycol mix yet. Have to keep it in the shop when it freezes.

Thats not hot enough to hurt anything. IF your gauge is accurate. Usually the radiator core is scaled up with lime or rust from tunning straight well water & needs replaced.

Does it have Anti-Freeze in the radiator..??

If it does, it may not have even Boiled..

If it didn't Boil Hard and the water level got low, it should be ok..

With the Hand-Operated Shutters, I imagine ALL of them got hot at one time or another..!!

Without a water pump, sometimes you needed to drop down a gear, to keep the temp lower in Summer Heat..
Was the Coolant level high enough for the water to actually Circulate..?
It must be near the top of the "Dam", below the radiator cap or the coolant will not be able to circulate..
Have you looked to see if the fins need flushed out..?? Could be they are packed with chaff..
Ron..

I know a guy that got his hot plowing too.It was a unstyled B. His tractor started smoking blue smoke after that. He said he was going to have to put rings in it. If yours dont smoke you might be alright.Your radiator may be partily stoped up or your head and block passages could be as well.

You could try a gallon of Phosphoric Acid (not the much stronger Muriatic Acid, which would probably eat through an aging radiator core, and give off a lot of Chlorine gas). The Phosphoric Acid will reduce the red rust to inert black oxide, should cause those flakes to jiggle to the bottom, and slowly dissolve calcium carbonate (hard lime scale), Tearing them down is most always best, but for a few bucks, you might at least improve it quite a bit. The risk is that it might promote a leak in one or more places. You can let it in for quite a few days, and getting it up to temp would not be a bad idea, though watch out as it might foam up like a soap.
