I have a 1990 john deere 2995 tractor. The PTO wont disengage at all. The shaft turns weather the PTO handle is up or down even under a load from my haybine. When I got the tractor the low side of the torque amplifier slipped and I was told to always use the high side. Now its slipping also every once in a while but not all the time. When it slips I also loose power steering. I am thinking its starving for oil but the oil level is full with new hyguard oil. Yes I have read the manual but it dont state any trouble shooting. Does it sound like all my problems are related or do you think the PTO and high/low problems are separate?

Too late now.
As stated on another post. When you kept
operating the tractor with a known fault. Which
was the high-low clutch pack bleeding off
transmission oil pressure. The pto clutch oil
pressure was also reduced. The pto clutch slipped
until heat warped and welded the clutch together.
If you had put the tractor in the shop the 1st
day the high low slipped and measured transmission
pressures with a gauge. The tractor would be
repaired today for a couple of grand $ tops.
Now because you just couldn't stop. The tractor
may well cost more to repair than going out and
purchasing a replacement tractor.
Please don't use the words "TA" on a JD forum
and infer a JD has a TA. I read the TA statement
to my family. And now the wife makes me sleep on
the couch, my daughter is on extended sleep over
at a friends place. The boys are too embarrassed
to be seen with me. And the dog refuses to come
when I call him.

We had a 44440 that the pto wouldn"t work and when the tractor strated the pto was on, when the tractor was off it would turn. We slip the tractor and found that the clutch was gone and all of the diskes were wruped badly, the clutch did not slip either

You should take some hydraulic pressure readings from the ports on the transmission shift cover, to determine if you have hydraulic leaks or pump problems.

open station or SGB?? Possibility of loose controls or faulty control valve. More likely warped pto plates dragging.
