I took some pictures of this plow at Antique Acres near Cedar Falls, IA. We have one just like it. I have always been wondering what decade it is from and what model it is. Can anyone help? |

I worked a gang plow behind a steamer at the Pagent of Steam last year. It was pretty cool to do it like they used to. The steamer pulled it no problem. The engineer said it used 20 gal of water per round. I also noted that one did not want to fall off one's platform while plowing.

That is what is refered to as a Gang plow. It took a gang of people to operate it behind a steam engine.

I believe John Deere advertised them as "Engine Plows". I think the 8 bottom could be either a "Junior" or "Senior" model but I don't know the differences. I assume it is from 1910-1915 era.

Looks like it would take a lot of 'oomph' to pull that sucker ! Of course a steam engine has lots. Neat.
