What did I do? I"ve competly gone thru everything on a JD M and am putting it back together. Been at this off and on for three years. One of the things I"ve done along the way was to replace the seal in the stering gear and the bearings in the spindles etc.. Now I"m putting everything back together and getting ready for the last coat of paint only to discover the steering is now backwards!! For the life of me I don"t see what is wrong! Ashamed to say I"m a retired hvy duty truck mech!! Reminds me of the time I took apart and lubed the steering gear on my boat. That time I figured out what I did eventually! Can somebody help out an old man please... Thanks in advance for any help.. EGBinOR

Nothing to it. You have the spindles and knee's on the wrong side. Switch them & the steering arms will point forward & it will steer correctly.

Thanks for the help! Looks like I"m going to have to turn the whole axle 180 degrees. The parts book shows the axle off center fwd, apparently the pic is wrong. Maint manual pics show it "for and aft" both.

Might be the steering arm is reversed on the lower end of steering shaft (it may be backwards).

See if you have the steering am rods on backwards where the tie rod ends' If so you now have the steering action reversed.

Is it possible you just have some lines reversed? I know nothing about the "M" steering system, but that could be the culprit.
