1st don't type in all capitals, it's shouting.
You can spend bucks to pin an old head with
modest port flow. It may not leak or not leak very
much.
Old studs maybe stretched as Bubba often felt a
torque wrench was not required and tighter is
better.
Or just purchase a thick wall casting with high
flow ports and a small combustion chamber. End of
problems.

Use a torque wrench, new grade 8 nuts and hardened washers.
Check the timing and air-fuel mixture? 87 octane in a high compression engine will cause detonation which is high pressure shock waves. Use 94 octane pump gas or 100LL.
Too much spark advance will cause detonation. A stuck distributer advance can cause detonation.
Too lean of a air-fuel mixture will cause detonation.
There comes a point when the old thin wall flat just can't hold the extra pressure. Maybe better off with the old head and a set of gasoline pistons.
