I have a friend that owns a 1954 John Deere "50" with a single front wheel. He wants to take the single front off and put a Roll-O-Matic on there. What would you expect to pay for a good used, ready to go, Roll-O-Matic complete with the rims? I can get the tires but he would need the roll-o-matic with the rims. Thanks for any responses!

Thanks for the offer, but I will be driving to Iowa from Az. and don't want to drive that far off my route. I will try to find one in Iowa or along the way, but I appreciate your help!

Why does he want to change from the single front ? I have a '60' single and love it.

The tractor was actually inherited by a Lady friend of mine from my tractor buddy who used to own it. It has no power steering and a roll-o-matic will just make it easier for her to steer. She goes with us to "plow days" ect.

Of course you are right, I often wish I had power steering, especially at slow speed. I have developed a technique of using the brakes to turn (had the thing since '71 and arms ain't as bulging as they once was)

They are offered all the time on e-bay, the 4 bolt, roll a matics , for later tractors generally are more expen , the 3 bolt like you are looking for , generally cheaper as for # JD 1268 rims , depending on cond $50 ta $150 or so. #1290,s will also fit but more expe. By 3&4 bolt, i mean the knuckles heaver or lighter duty.

Can you use the 4 bolt cap roll-a-matics on the two cyl. JD's if you couldn't find the older 3 bolt ones, or would that not be "correct"?

It will fit, but won't be "correct". Only the most finicky person would notice. I see them priced all the way up to $450, but don't know if anyone has successfully sold one for that.

Here's the "correct" 3 bolt ROM on ebay. (not mine, nor any one I know)

I have one sitting in the shed in SW WI, but am not sure I'm ready to sell it. I still have the 60 and might put it back on.

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

One more thing - I don't know when they quit using one piece pedestals, but you may want to make sure he has a split pedestal. I know some early 50s and 60s could be ordered with one piece pedestals. I saw a 60 w/one piece pedestal in the L&M Salvage in Richland Center WI just last week.

Where is your friend at? I will be driving to southeast Iowa for The Old Threshers Reunion in a couple weeks. I was going to try to find one to bring back to Az. for my friend.
