is there any one, or who is the best company to call for beefing up a powershift. i have one i farm with and also pull with. i want to make sure that 7th gear will hold up. thanks for the help.
for advice, i'll let you know, that i have double sprung the torsional dampner with 4840 outer springs and 4630 inner springs. i also put a 1/2 washer in the cup. my system pressure is 195. can i go more? thanks for any help.

It would take more than 300 H.P. to be able to pull a normal sled in eighth. The jump from 7th to eighth would be about 30% which at 3000 RPMs would be about 25MPH+.I know the guys with a lot of power have wheel speed of 40+ but usually have 750+ H.P.300 H.P. is pretty good for a basically stock unit. I havent seen any powershifts in the few pulls I help with.Even though we have JDs the Red ones are hard to beat especially if you are trying to keep the cost down.Big JD H.P.is expensive.I know a guy that made some over a million dollars pulling that started with around two.Just Kidding.

i didn't know what would happen. just a thought. in the 10500 class i know that i had almost to much gear in 7th. its not to much of a big deal. i know its easier to through a truck engine in a 1066 and go, but i'm a deere man. i have noticed 2 things since i started playing with this tractor. my tractor pulls best between 13,000-16000. i also noticed that those reds ones are a little more down to earth at that weight also. its all in fun. some day i will probably build a hot farm j/d using the quad range tranny where i can pull at 9-10000 lbs. but for now, i'll keep playing with my farm tractor that has a cab on it.

The 8spd. power shift is not a good choice to pull with...they are good with the rated HP, or a bit more, but won"t deal with high HP...

im not looking for huge h.p. i like my p.s enough that i am not getting rid of it to go pulling. i go to about 3 or 4 a year at local fairs. i guess if i want to get into pulling i would probably look for a quad range.

You have plenty enough lube pressure, and with the disconnect clutch setup you won't get any slip there. Seventh gear should be fine, but remember you are shifting 3 clutch/brake packs at the same time, which gives the "delay". If you are way up in the HP department the input shaft will likely become the "shear pin"

i am around 300 h.p. all i did to the 404 was have my intector pump turned up and govenor weights changed. i was told that by drilling out the orfice found where the accumulators are, that would make my shift faster. right now i am pulling 13,500 in 7th gear. starting out in 5th. it shifts really nice. i am just looking for any way i can make that unit top notch. i just rebiult the whole thing and want to protect it. like i said, i can through on my stock pump and farm with it. thanks for the reassuance though. do you think it would hold in 8th gear. i have mine down to 10,000 and would like to try it.
