Bill I think you need to get a partsbook. All your questions will be answered and help you to understand better.

You should be able to measure from the face of the governor to the drive lug and determine what you need. I think I have some adapters I made to change a short lug to a long lug.

on the end of the mag were it connects to the governor. You got flat ears that go in the slot on the governor and there either long or short.

Depends on what year the tractor is. It is the drive lug.

Ok, that is what I thought it might be.
I have a WICO XB Distributor and I am thinking about going to a Mag or Delco distributor. So, my question then is.... which Mag do I get...
Short or long?

Short lug. The long lug was used on the unstyled tractors.

The WICO XB that I have now has something that looks like the blade from a blender accept that it is rectangular and not sharp. I'm going to measure the distance tomorrow but from all said.... it must be a short lug Mag that I would use. I'm wondering what that Delco distributor looks like now?

Here is a link to a Delco for a two cylinder Deere at Brillman.

Enjoy!

Ah! yes. I found this place and have sent them a couple of questions. Since the WICO XB and the Delco have differnt bases (the WICO has bolted top and bottom connections the Delco is round with no bolted connections????? There has to be something to clamp the Delco to the Deere govenor.

Bill

Bill,

The round base fits right into the the governor. It is round so you can turn it to adjust it. There are two small clamps that are mounted on the governor in the same two points that hold the mag or XB.

The Parts book for the "50" tractor shows the Delco distributor. It was original equipment from Deere. If you buy one, be sure to get the clamps.

The Delco was also available from Deere as a replacement for the XB.

Thanks once again. That makes sense about the clamps. So, if I go the Delco way I need a 6 volt coil to go with the distributor and a way to mount both and I should be good to go.
