I've only been around old JD's at the pulls, some of them you can physically feel the thumping of the cylinders as you stand next to them. This is mainly on the "G" models that I have noticed, and I assume they have been tweaked with larger bores. How big of a bore/piston can they get? |

I was at a pull a couple weekends ago and a guy had a monsterous jd "R" that sounded awesome. At low idle you could almost make out the sound of air pulses being sucked into the intake stack. Pretty darn neat. |

| | Charlie, the "little" big ones now are 7" x 9.25" stroke. I'm working on a couple of 8" blocks for folks now, and one for me to be 8" x 10.5" stroke with a billet crank. |

| The guys that use the JD G for pulling can get over 100HP with these machines. I seen a guy pulled last week. 1946 GM. Dual Exhaust. Pulled like a team of Pergeraun horses. Never seen anything like it before. Talked to the guy after . He claimed 7 inch bore 7 inch stroke. What a beast. Wished I got video of him pulling. |

| About ten years ago, I went into the power plant in Macon Missouri about this time of year. They had two big backup generator engines to pick up the slack in peak power periods. One engine was a V-12 Worthington. It was big but, there was a larger Nordberg in line ten cylinder engine. The Nordberg was about 75 ft. long, and the cylinders were about thirty six inches in diameter. The center line of the crankshaft was even with the floor and the engine was a dry sump crankcase. There was a three hundred gallon crank case oil tank just below the engine in the basement. It had three thirty horse power electric motors to pump the oil to all the vital parts of the engine while it ran. Compare that to the two gallons of oil in the crank case of the "G". The "G" engine next to the Nordberg would be like a honey bee next to the "G". I say all this to explain that as I went into the power plant, the Nordberg was running and as I walked past it I could feel an uneasy feeling in my chest as my heart rhythm was being changed by the vibration of this big engine. Years ago I was standing next to a big Minneapolis tractor on steel wheels. The tractor was running and I could feel the ground moving as that big tractor was pounding the ground. |
