Hi all. My question is how do you keep the large hydraulic line from leaking with nothing but a cork washer? The one that comes down out of the control panel it has a new cork seal in it and I tighten the 1wo screws and it just pulls right out there is no way I can see to get it to seal.1958 420 W Help Thanks |

| I've used the cork impregnated with rubber without any problems. You gotta use the steel ring to help compress the cork. Also try to get the tubes lined up as good as possible. The rubber ring is a good idea tho.......

| | yep ya gotta have that steel ring in there as shown in the parts book. I got a 58W and a coincidence just ordered two of those seals thru the local JD dealer. They cam in made of a rubber/neoprene material just like ten years ago. Maybe different parts of the country get the seals make by a different manufacturer? i donno, but have never seen a cork one. |

| I've worked on a lot of hydraulic systems and I've never seen one with cork seals. I don't have a schmatic of your system, but I'm thinking the line you're talking about must be a return line and not a pressure line. I have a JD 40 and there are no cork seals in it's fittings. I think I'd try an O ring or a square cut rubber seal. |

| | I found it odd too, but this is what came out and the new ones from JD are the same part M3246T it uses three of them one at the top and two down below of the panel. Ohio tractor guy says I need a steel ring I must have lost or miss placed it that will squeeze the cork ring and make it seal. thanks for the reply |

| I have ran into this issue several times now & have found it best to use sleeve 13(rubber/viton material) part # M3189T IN PLACE OF M3246T (Cork). This practice has eliminated my leaks..... |

| Thanks for the tip, I think I will do that before I put fluid to it. It seems like leakes are always what ruins a otherwise nice restoration. |
