8630 engine what series?

If I remember right there is block info near where the alternator mounts. At least on the 7.6 litre engines, anyways. A dealer should be able to verify that much. I don't how much else can be brought over from the old engine as far as injection pump and so forth. Hopefully Tim S is not to busy today to check in.

Check the engine serialnumberplate. A 8630 had probably the 619ae01 engine. The 8640 has the 619ae02 engine and the 8650 has the 619ae03

Motor serial number plus some outward differences. They offered a couple options just like JD did on 4520s to upgrade to 4620motors.Seems like on the dog we had new JD did motor and front differential updates and when we got a 8640 that one also had problems. We then got an 8650 that we sold and got an IH Steiger.Big difference! I personally would look at something with 855 Cummings power.Just hauled a nice 350H.P. Steiger with 8 near new tires with 4500 hrs. that cost 16K

Cheap horsepower but can be troublesome.I would look at something with Cummings power.Serial number will tell you .They offered a couple options just like JD did on 4520s to upgrade to 4620motors.Seems like on the dog we had new they put in pistons[they were great on trying to fix them with continual updates] and when we got a 8640 that one had major engine issues. We then got an 8650 that we sold and got an IH Steiger.Big difference!Just hauled a nice 350H.P. Steiger with 8 near new tires with 4500 hrs. that cost 16K

There were several different series or versions of the 619,there isa tag up,near the alternator that will tell you. LIKE larry statedthey had a lot of problems, but most of them were from the engine block actually flexing from the front axel mounting on the front of the engine,Deere put more strength in the later blocks but went on to let the new 60 series desighn help take care of the problem. My brother and I bought a 8630 new in 1979 and wore it out at least twice, put over 20,000 hours on it,and yes we had near every bolt out of it too, we added an 8640 and an 8430 to it a couple years later, we called them a gernade with a loose pin,,but we we did a lot of work with them, and yes I got good at fixing them along the way.

I am in New Orleans visiting my son this week, lots of rain down here, but no place to grow anything,What a giant Swamp this place is.......
