I received from my uncle, some parts for his A, approx. 1951 model, which he sold long ago. One of the parts is the shaft that is splined, about 2 inches in diameter, and is, I think, the shaft that the clutch drum mounts on. It is about 20 inches long. It appears to be in very good condition, no rust, very little wear. What is this called exactly, and is anybody out there looking for one? Thanks. |

| Is the shaft splined the whole lenth? My guess is tha conector shaft from the pto bevel gears to the front of the pto shaft that goes through the power trol. |

| Hugh,
I don't know for sure, but I would say it is something from the transmission or PTO. The crankshaft is what the belt pulley, clutch pulley, is mounted to.
Others will chime in though, and they'll know more than me.

| Most likely, it is the sliding gear shaft from the transmission. Part Number A3808. Don"t see anything else it could be. |

| Well, thanks to all for the input so far. It actually has two sets of splines, the larger diameter part has 16 teeth, and the somewhat smaller diameter has 18 teeth. And on the end with the smaller splines, it has threads for a large nut that begin about four inches from the end. Where is the part number imprinted/cast in it? Again, thanks to all for the help. |

| The lower shaft or counter shaft might fit that discription. Look at AA3203R pg82 item 41. |

| I do appreciate all your work in locating this piece from the manual. But since I don't own an A (I do own a 70, though) I don't have that particular manual. Does anybody out there have that manual that they could post that illustration? Anyway, thank you and all who have offered this valuable information to help me track this down. I'll probably put it up for sale if there is an interest out there. Hugh |

| I got it! From the pdf file that F I T listed, it is a transmission countershaft, for use with a locking nut (as opposed to a dowel pin) which of course is used for changing gears. To all who contributed, thank you very much. Does anybody know somebody who wants to buy one of these? Write me at Hughmc0726@aol.com if interested. |
