This is my first year of pulling my tractor. I need some help. I have 13.6x38 tires on right now and the last pull that i had was 179.64 feet compared to the first pull of 142.07 feet. The tracctor is stock has had nothing dome to the engine at all. I would like to pull a little further on the track not to try to beat any one but to just compete against myself if that makes sense. I am at the pull to have fun not to make big money or to win all the time just need a little help getting started. Here is a picture of the last pull and what my tracks looked like when i finished. Thanks for any advise in advance.

By the looks of that picture, you need to add at least 100 lbs of weight on the front maybe more.

You are on the right track. A tall narrow tire needs more psi than a short wide tire.
A stock 50 with the traction variables maxed out can be an entirely respectable puller.

Greg, I don't know what weight class you pulled in but 5 lbs. of air may be your problem. The tire will flatten out and when it does you lose drawbar height and also lose any weight transfer to the rear wheels. You would be much better served with a higher rear tire pressure. Mike

Did the front wheels rise before the sled stopped? Spin out or stall out?
Hitch height?
Tire pressure?
Type of track?
Brand and model of tire?

yes the front tires were completely off the ground about 2 inches or so. The hitch height was 20 inches and that is the max for our club and the min is 18 inches. My tire pressure was at 5 psi and the track was really dry at first then it rained and moistened it a little. The tire is a co-op tire and not sure what brand sorry

Probably will need (according to conditions) much more pressure..

Be SURE to INCREASE front tire pressure..I dunno why..maybe the Pressure makes the front Heavier..??!
(actually, it keeps the hitch-height more consistent)..!!
Have FUN..YOU have the Right Idea...!!

Ron.

You are getting close. Maybe 1-3 psi more in the rear tires.
5:00-15 tires on the front would level her out.
All in all appears respectable enough of a pull.
