$7500+ will buy a good early 4020 diesel with good rubber. Most have been O.Hd.Tires and condition can mean about 40% of the value.Later ones are more .Usually buying one that needs a little work needs a lot of work.I know of several cases where the first price doubled or more.Dont let paint, new seat, steering wheel etc.influence your decision.JD service centers or knowledgeable mechanics see things you more than likely can miss.Consignment auction tractors are not all bad but the bad ones are all there. The local salvage yard pays around $35/40 per horsepower.

prices have been very strong all year. look twice.

You need to think about that for a moment, a 4020 power shift with issues can be very expensive..

Powershift with PTO problems means it will cost more than what you expect.I am with Tim find one without problems. There are many good ones to chose from.I personally like the later ones as they have some improvements in hydraulics plus they have better resale.

You didn"t say what year or gas or diesel, makes a big difference, as for the pto the early Power Shifts had a problem with the PTO brake anchor pin shearing letting the PTO brake piston spin in the housing till it ruined things, would be a real deal breaker...
