Hey Guys:
It's time to replace the intake/exhaust manifold, exhaust pipe and muffler on my old 530. Been putting it off for a couple of years now. This tractor is still used, not just a parade queen. Just scared to death that I'll break off the four bolts that hold the e-manifold to the head. Don't have an acetylene torch, but do have have a carbon arc torch for my welder. Started to apply penetrating oil on the bolts today. Can anyone offer any advice as to how to best get the manifold off without twisting off any bolts? Thanks for any help!

I use a box end flat wrench then have another person with a hammer and punch pounding on the bolt head while you are working the bolt back and forth. It has worked for me on 3 tractors no broken bolts.

| Thanks guys for your replies. I was afraid you'd say I probably would twist one or more off. It's reassuring to know though that they will come out using the welded nut technique. I'm ordering all the parts tomorrow, so hopefully I'll get this done by the end of the week.

I forgot to mention, run a tap down the threads before putting in the new never-siezed bolts.

There is no way around the fact that you will twist one off. After the manifold is off plug all the ports with wet rags. Then weld nuts on to the bolts. They will come out.

Depending on how long it has been and if they were not changed out before and anti sieze not used, they are likely to break off. All of the many years and the heat/cool cycle coupled with no anti sieze from the factory make them a difficult bolt to remove. If they do break off, you can weld a nut to the top of them and turn them out with a wrench. Use pleanty of anti sieze going back in. If not for you, for the next guy years from now that is doing the same thing.
