I need some help here and I will try to be breif. I just picked up an unstyled G. When we test ran it, it sounded solid, threw out a little gray smoke and had a "miss" to it running in low gear. I brought it home and rebuilt the carb. Got some new parts and the normal gaskets, re-assembled and started the tractor. It now throws black smoke but seems to hit, "putt" fine. I re-checked the float level and the 5/8 to 3/4 top of bowl to fuel height and its good. Got the needles backed out the reccomended number of starting turns. I can't seem to think what may be different? How can I tell if a valve is stuck???? I really believe it is something simple I am missing. Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch |

| On the float level, with the bowl off,and turned up side down,The float should be 3/8 to 1/2 in. from the top of the bowl as you hold it up side down. After it is set,I reassemble and put a drain and hose in bottom hole of bowl, let it fill with fuel, and it should hold the fuel level at 3/4 in. down from top for at least 24 hours. Look at Roberts carb site to get an idea of how that test works |

| You may need to adjust your needles for proper operations. Most suggested settings will get you started, but you will need to fine tune your carb for your tractor. |

| If it has a stuck valve then it will be nearly impossible to start and backfire through the carb. It will also have a very, very noticeable miss like it is only running on one cylinder.
New parts and gaskets do not get a carb even close to where it should be. Unless you take out all the little plugs and hone all the "stuff" out of all the passages it will never work worth a darn.
I went through the same thing on my 37 G, |

| Thanks Factory Farmer. I did clean out the all the ports with little drill bits and pipe cleaners. Dipped the bowl and carb body in solvent. I think I am going to run water through the intake canister like a previous thread suggested since this tractor came from the mid west and it's now here in the east. I guess the dreadded mud daubers never make it this far. Then I will see what I have. Thanks a bunch. |
