Working on a 48 D. Need to pull the pistons. What is the best way to clean out the sludge out of the bottom of crankcase and clean out lines/ oil passages? Thanx. |

| I fill the crankcase with the mineral spirits that come in 5 gallon cans and turn the engine over by hand. The rest I will scrub by hand. |

| I have a pump from a small cleaning tank with a piece of plastic tubing attached. Put it in a 5 gal. bucket with a couple of gallons of kerosene under the crankcase drain hole. Run the tube up and into the crankcase, start the pump and wait. Move the tube every day or so to hit different areas. May take a couple of weeks but it will flush all the crud out of an engine or transmission. I've used it a number of times with good success. Pump must be rated for solvents, such as you would use in a cleaning tank. |

| I put a gallon of diesel in the drained crankcase and turned the engine over w/o the spark plug cables attached. Then took the drain plug out again and flushed diesel through the top transmission cover. It worked good at breaking loose the sludge. |
