For some reason I have no lift in my cutter bar ... does anyone know why this happens.... not talking about lifting the bar completely up... like you would if you was moving the mower... but the end of the cutter bar use to raise in an arc it would come off the ground about the level of your knee or a little under but the end of the cutter bar now is lucky if it clears the ground by 3 inches ... it is hydraulic and yes it has fluid in it.

| No I think that this is what has messed it up as it has run incorrectly for awhile. But we do have it back together and it is working nicely, Thanks everyone. |

| Did you add these extra parts since it worked last or did I misunderstand that it used to work correctly? |

| We have figured out what is wrong... I have the parts catalog to this mower and while looking at page 20-2 at parts numbers 23-29 I noticed that our mower had a few more pieces that hook to the lifting rod (29) had a d link and a link of chain, I finally convinced my farther that the lifting rod is suppose to hook directly into the arm (19) without those other pieces... but now I can't get it to hook into it... part no twenty Seven the arm for the lifting crank (no. twenty eight) has a little ear thing on it and he has it facing to the inside but when you look at it on this page it looks as though it faces to the outside?
Do you have to release the spring part no 43 before you are able to hook this up correctly?
I know that this is confusing but I am not very good at explaining things... so any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| If you are talking about the outside of the bar not raising like it should then the small turnbuckle behind the inside shoe needs to be adjusted to the outside of the bar will raise higher than the inside. This is explained in your operator's manual. Mike |

| Not familiar with the hydraulic lift, but I have a Ford 501 that has arms that clamp onto the lift arms about 1/3 of the way to front of the arms. If these are not clamped in the right position or are not really tight then the outer end of the mower will not lift. |

| Are you talking about inner end of bar or outer end of bar or both? Inner or both could be hydrolick problem. Outer end only would be something broke on mower. |

| Most likely the rockshaft piston gasket has blown. When this happens it wont lift and wont stay up. Remove the rockshaft housing and remove the cylinder, replace the packngs on the piston as well. Could have an overfull transmission as well . |

| If it is hand lift there is the large spring the runs front to back on the mower frame. Tighten down the bolt at the end to add more tention and this should help get the bar off of the ground. I found with my No.5 there is a "sweet spot" on that adjustment. I am not too sure if this would come into play with hydraulic cylinder lifting like it does with hand lifting the bar. |
