My 1944 model B with a powertrol and remote cylinder is slowly leaking hydraulic oil into the transmission. The cylinder works fine and the cutter bar on my #5 mower stays up. I am assuming the cause is a bad seal on the power shaft. Is this correct? Is there any other place that hydraulic oil can get into the transmission. I plan on reworking the seal as soon as mowing season is over. |

| | Besides the 2 seals on the power shaft there are 2 other places where hyd. oil can leak out into the trans. Look at page 100 in PC-330, the B parts catalog. The seals are A668R. Right in front of the seals there's a brass cup, A667R, and a brass bushing, A621R. If they're chewed up oil can leak between them. The 2 other places are the gasket between the rockshaft operating cylinder and the rockshaft housing and the cup or packing on the rockshaft piston. The part #s for these items vary depending on the set-up you have. Look at Key #s 5,9,17,&18 on page 100. If your '44 is like my '48 you'll have to take the rockshaft housing off to remove 1 snap ring so you can pull the power shaft out. You also need the rockshaft housing off to get at the cylinder gasket, key # 5. |

| | That cup is expensive to replace but Deere still has it about $97. You have to take the back off and not too bad of a job. I just did mine using a motorcycle jack. I replaced all the gaskets, spring and bushings.
