I am rebuilding a JD 60LP. I have the head done. The block looks like it should be bored out. In the parts manual, I show LP pistons in two different sizes. Standard and .045 over. Are LP pistons different than gasoline pistons? They take the same ring set. I am scared to bore the block without having a resource for new pistons. Should I just reuse the old pistons with new rings? Thank you for your input!

LP pistons are about one inch taller than gas pistons. lots more compression,

>>>Are LP pistons different than gasoline pistons?

Yes. Parts book shows that as well.

From the FSB:

LP-Gas has a lower heating
value per gallon than gasoline, so
it won"t do as much work per
gallon as gasoline. But LP-Gas
has a high octane rating, which
permits raising the compression
ratio to compensate for the lower
heating value of the fuel. In John
Deere LP-Gas engines the compression
ratio is 7.3 to 1.

Better get it measured up & see what it needs. Maybe it has been bored before.

Have you actually measured the bores and pistons or just eyeballing the parts?

As you suppected, I have just "eyeballed" it thus far. I took a hone to it. The ridge at the top of the cylinder is what I am basing my statements on. I will get it measured in the next few days. Thanks!
