With haying about to start figuerd I better fix the 1960 4010's steering. Thought the Steering knuckle was indexed wrong.(Actualy impossible, but spindle appears to be in motor 180deg backwards based on marks) I have full powersteering to the left from any position at any time. To the right it will almost always power steer to center and then stop until the syncroization valve can move it the rest of the way. If the loader bucket is full this can be only when I am moving. Backing through a 10' gate can be fun. If I let it sit with it all the way to the right and get the wheels turned I will have power steering left and back to the right, however I loose probaly 10 degrees of steering back to the right every time I go past center. The longer the wheel is turn hard left the more power steering I loose to the right. One other clue sitting still the wheels will almost always slowly turn left unless the wheel is all the way right then they go right. I hope it's something simple. |

Sorry if someone offended you but o-ring's that will have the appearance that rodents have been chewing on them can't be repaired by a can full of anything.
I've read on a can of Seafoam that it can be poured in a crankcase but it won't get poured in any crankcase of mine nor will any "Motor Honey". |

| Okay, sounds like fun. I know the former owner was hard on the front end and even managed to lay the tractor over once when he snap a spindle. So steering motor damage is totaly possible. The steering motor looks much simpler to work on than the steering valve. |

I think the o-rings in steering motor are leaking on the pistons. These can be replaced by removing one side rail after supporting the tractor |

| I agree with Jim, start with the steer motor, I have 2 setting in the driveway that are acting the same way, a 4020 and a 2510, I'll post some pics of doing one in a couple of days... |

| Sounds to me like one of the check valves are sticking. If it was mine I would put a can of Sea Foam Transmission tune in it and run it back and fourth a bunch of times, may want to jack the front end up first. |

| When the o-rings are blown out none of the whiches brew will fix it. Ive overhauled too many so I know 6-orings ,6 back up washers a new seal and its good to go. |

| | Sorry for offering my advice, figured maybe putting a $7 can of "whitches brew" or maybe snake oil might fix it best case, or worst case clean it up for replacing the O rings. Gotta love you JD people, you are perfectly willing to offer advice unless it deals with what is is worth, or if someone has something a littler nicer than yours. Go to the threshing shows and talk to the IH, AC, Case, or anyone other than the JD people and they like to talk and offer their advice, the JD people only want to talk if they think they have something better than you. |
