John Deere Double A

About a year or so ago I captured a photo on this form of a John Deere A that was stretched out and had another motor in front of the original. I showed it to a group of guys and they would like to know if both engines worked and if so, how power was transmitted from the front engine to the back one.

Anything thing like this 'Double R'(Linden Wa. last year)

That is not a JD A. That is a JD R. There is a good video on youtube and the builder. I think if you search John Deere double R. You will find it. Very well built. I have heard that there was a company like what the Lindeman Company done with the John Deere BO'S. That made these kits to make Doubles. But I have never found any info on it to back it up.

I believe I have seen a JD "B" or "A" with a Double engine..
They were connected with a Flat Belt between the Clutch Drums..

There are examples of "Double and Triple Tractors" made from many Makes of tractor..all Custom Made, too..

I know the tractor you speak of. It was on here about 5-7 years ago. Best as I remember the front engine was started and the clutch engaged. A belt ran between the two pulleys. As the rear clutch was engaged it also got power from the front engine from the belt. There was no transmission behind the front engine. I believe the tractor could be operated on the rear engine alone. Not sure how the throttle was connected together. Gave new meaning to "long frame A".

I forgot to mention when I posted, that the unit was made by (forgot the name) and it is articulated like a log skidder -excellent work done. I missed the 'running' by about 20 mins., BUT the show/fairgrounds were spectacular ! b
