4430 hot hydraulic oil

I have a 4430 that is heating hyd oil. No noises the pistons in the pump seem to be moving free. Any other ideas? Maybe a plugged cooler.
Thanks

I am not an expert, but think you might have an internal leak. Those are closed center systems, so a leak will cause the pump to work overtime.

One place is to remove the draft setting plug just to the upper right of the toplink and shine a light in there with it running and there should only be a few dribbles of oil coming down and NOT to look like a pressure washer

Start the tractor when cold and let it run (1/2 hour or so)and feel the hydraulic components. The one with the leak will get warm first. Check SCVs, rockshaft valve, steering valve, brake valve, and diff lock valve. All are high pressure functions and any one could be your problem.

My 4010, 4020, and 4230 had open systems as I recall. The fluid circulated constantly and was available at the valves in motion so all you had to do is redirect it which made for a much faster response than the closed systems of early Fords.

Mark, with all due respect that is not correct. The Deere tractors you mentioned have a closed center system where the oil does not flow until it is needed unlike an open center system in the Ford you mentioned that has oil flowing at all times. Hope this helps. Mike

Yeah, I got them backwards. Got to go over tho the Ford site and correct that error too.

I just got my I&T Mauual # JD-203 and read the error of my ways. It's been awhile since I had hyd problems and looked at my book. After reading through it I realized it was a complicated fluid availability, circulation system. One thing that had me off on the wrong path was the fact that unused oil that bypasses the pump is routed to the radiator for cooling.

On heat and leaking valves, it did mention that a leaking valve would be warmer on the down flow side than other valves that aren't leaking. This of course assumes that the fluid has come up to temperature.

Also mentioned that the pump and control valves maintain 2250 psig for steering, tranny, hyd and all.

Thanks,

Mark

we had the same prob and I am reaching back over 20years here but there is a check ball? in rock shaft housing that was partially unseated and making the HHOOTT.
