I went and looked at a 2440 w/146 loader today and I can't decide what I think about its condition so I'm gonna ask for a few opinions:
3542 hours, 50% 16.9x30 BFG tires with moderate to heavy cracking all over, steering is 1/3 turn loose, straight 8 speed w/ independent PTO, rack & pinion axles have been cutoff shorter, block heater & ether port, 3pt. arms do slide as they should, 1 remote and differential lock and foot throttle.
The hydraulics seemed to operate fine but had a funny feeling. When you would first pull the lever the loader moved but was a hair slow, then after a second would move quickly, like it should. It had this noticeable delay in all the loader functions.
It took about 20 seconds of cranking to get it to start at 45F, which I thought was a bit long. Engine had a new head 5 years ago due to owner fault and overheating. I called the previous owner and got his story after I left the used equip dealer. Put a test strip in the antifreeze and it was great. Passed with flying colors.
Transmission oil was MILK after I drove it around the lot. Range shifter could be pulled right out of its hole (they're gonna fix this...). The boots on both shifters need to be replaced. Pulled the trans screen and there was no metal to speak of but considerable dirt and chaff, so it at least hadn't been tampered with. Brakes worked just as they should so they didn't seem destroyed.
Hood & wheels were repainted poorly (why I don’t know) by the used equip. dealer where it was at. The paint on the loader is a better indication of its true colors.
Pictures are of the tractor & loader, then a shot of the oil in a drain pan. Background is the yellow rim, black tire, concrete floor dirty with wet gravel dust.
They want $7500. Region is central IN/IL
