3020s: This make sense to you?

So I've found two 3020's that together fit my liking. One is a gas syncro 2 remotes wide-front w/ Freeman Loader ($6250). Other is a gas powershift 1 remote narrow front ($5500).

My idea was to buy both and put the WFE, loader and 2nd remote on the gas/powershift tractor, then sell the 2nd tractor as a plain Jane gas/syncro/narrow front/ 1 remote for $4000-$5000.

Am I dreaming or do you guys think that's a decent way to do it?

Thanks

How much is your time worth for the changes ? What is the general condition of the 2 tractors (tires, paint, hours) ? How long are you willing to set on the for sale tractor ? Generally hard to give away a gas plain jane in our area.

You would be lucky to get $4000 for a "plain Jane" gas 3020. I would just keep the gas syncro around until I found a nice Diesel 3020. Gas/powershift is a gut less wonder.

If it was a 4010 or 4020 I would be interested. I'm looking for a reasonable tractor to put under a 237 picker. Mike

You didnt say the year but it makes sense if thats exactly what you want. The JD wide front is worth around $1000 ,the second valve if earlier than 1969 will cost around $750 from a salvage yard, the loader is a little harder but good loaders seldom bring less than$1500 so it looks like $3250 worth of parts plus probably a days time depending on facility and skill level ,would take me longer. If you have to pay a shop that gets a little high.A 3020 gas powershift with wide front 2SCVs and loader should be a decent light/ medium duty unit. The problem I see is you have $7750 plus labor which is top value for that combo.A stripped down gas 3020 would be closer to 4K than 5K and the power shift takes some extra power and the gas tractors start good but arent the greatest.

Hi Mike-I am trying to get in contact with you to find out if you know what these magazines are selling for? Saw one on Yesterdays Tractors.
1953 John Deere Better Farming Magazine in nice shape.

I would have to partially agree with you on a 3020 gas being a gutless wonder. I have been around two, early 3020 gas tractors that were gutless wonders. The one on our farm is a 1966 model. We have had it since the mid-1970's. That tractor is irreplaceable and we would be without it. A couple years ago the head gasket was leaking so we had that repaired. After that was done it was dynoed at 68 horsepower. It does not do the field work, but fits in about every other place..............kind of the farm's version of the Leatherman Multi-purpose tool. Gutless? Not on your life! Gutsy? You bet! 68 hp I think is pretty respectable for that tractor.
