Update on the M

Well now sitting drying out from yet another
wet saturday.... Took the Block from the little
John Deere M to a machine shop to have it bored
in the rain... Took all my pop cans & cooper to
the scrap yard, then ordered new parts for the
engine once we checked the bore.. The A/C SP100
combine I purchased for the tires is about
ready to leave my property. I was able to sell
some items off it befor it"s scrapped, I will
have free tires now, I"m ahead of the game.
The M is in better shape than I thought, I"ve
readjusted or widen"d the frt axle with no
problems, brake system , generator & clutch
are all in good shape.. I must say a very good
450.00 investment so far. I still need a few
items like the 6v battery, I don"t know why
J/D only used one frt headlamp? That looks
stupid to me. It will have two when it rolls
off my assemble line...

Mine has 2 lights on the front,I thought they all had 2 Good luck on the m those are good solid tractors, just a little hard to get on and off

Yea that's what they tell you and then they goof it up anyhow. BTDT

I have yet to see a 2cyl. engine that doesn't work out correct if you take the std. bore size and then add your oversize. As long as you have a half decent piston maker it all works out fine.

PRECISELY! You bore the block to the over from standard, and if your piston manufacturer can't hit that O/S dimension, find a different supplier. All Deere did do was to select moment weighed pistons in pairs, but if you ordered a block, it came bored to size and you could slide your standard pistons into it.

The reason for one headlight is simple. It's a one row tractor. All you had to have was one rear light to watch the furrow and one headlight to watch the row you were cultivating. Anything else wasn't necessary to most farmers and farmers weren't keen on buying hardly anything they considered unnecessary.

Not a bad deal at all. Looked at a nice restored M with lots of implements yesterday that was being sold for a lot more than that. My MT has two lights mounted next to each rear fender. Now that I have the 6volt system in good shape and new 6volt bulbs it has plenty of light. I would think one in front and one at the rear would be good enough light for this tractor and the speed you would be traveling.

I have had this man do many for me, we gauged
each hole, used a good light in the process.
I"ve never had a problem with his work, once
your inside his doors I seen 3 R Blocks & heads
1 cyclone A Block, & a 60 block he had sleeves
to install in it.. These engine"s don"t turn
10K RPM. If I were rebuilding a rocket that I
planned to take to Mars, I"d probly wouldn"t do
it this way, or just stay home...
