John Deere 2630 with 145 Loader Hard to Steer

This is a follow-up to an earlier post about my 2630. I posted about hydraulic cavitation in my rockshaft and loader when the hydraulics were warm. Replaced the seals in the rockshaft--still had misting with 3 pt raised all the way, but it stops when depth control lever is set at "D". Second, had the steering valve rebuilt. There is a piston ring broken with about 1/2 inch of the ring missing. Put everything back together, no cavitation when warm, system working well...but now, no steering when sitting still. Had steering before, but had cavitation in steering wheel. Now the cavitation is gone, but I seem to have little or no power steering! My mechanic thought maybe the loader was too heavy for the tractor (JD 145) but I don't believe that since there are so many 2630/145 pairs out there. He also thought the the partially broken ring in the steering valve could be the problem, although he was doubtful that it would have much impact due to its design. Any suggestions before I start drinking? Thanks to everyone.

First if your mechanic thinks a JD 145 frt end loader is too heavy for a JD 2630 you picked the WRONG mechanic. I've seen 145 loaders work well on 820/830 & 1020's. Ive also seen JD 146 & 48 loaders on 2630's.

I'd suggest checking stand-by pressure. It should be 2250 psi but I'd set it to 2350 psi. Are the front axles free and greased? If at 2350 psi and it still won't steer I'd say mechanic didn't repair valve housing correctly. It's more than likely shimmed incorrectly.
