my 1970- 3020 gas, when running at high rpm under load, after about 45-60 min, will sputter and quit. cannot restart it, have to leave it sit about 2 hours before it will start and then the cycle repeats itself. I replaced the fuel filter thinking that was the problem "not" antifreeze level is correct and raditor side screens are clean. The raditor cap dosn't seam to get real tight and will turn past the tight spot and go loose. Im not sure what to do I don't think that the cap could be sine it's been that way long before this problem has started.

Are you burning up your "winter" gas? It has more vapor pressure and will "vapor lock" the carb. I did this on my 4010 gasser.....finally saw the gas "boil" in the fuel pump bowl and decided to buy summer gas. Also, be sure you don't have the exhaust manifold heat riser installed in the "hot" position as this will put too much heat to the carb and also boil the gas in the bowl.

If you have a coil issue, you should have weak (or no) spark....easy to test.(after it quits)

Have a 71 3020 gasser and it did this and I took the same steps you did. On the back of the carb does it still have that factory electric needle deal??? I took it off and it worked fine, until it got hot and then it would quit working. Bought a new one ( that part hurt) and problem solved. Good luck and if you have any questions holler.

Certainly sounds like a bad coil. When it gets warm it the windings are creating an open circuit. If you would check for spark when your tractor quits you will find no spark if your problem is ignition. I changed a 4010 gas over to an electronic ignition system eliminating the points and condenser whille also putting a hotter coil on. The best money ever spent. Starts better and fewer ignition problems.

It cant be the coil as I converted to electronic ignition. And the tractor will start with the choke after it dies after about 5 min. but it just sputters and quits.

Can't be the conensor, can still be the coil with electronic ignition.

When it dies check for spark immediately. If you have spark you have a fuel problem. If you don't have spark, you have a spark problem.
