3020 front hyd pump noise

So I am tired of the noise from the front hyd pump on my 3020 diesel. 1964 model with about 5000 hours on it. It chatters up front but we using the loader it stops. Thought those rubber were gone on the front connector to pump but they look pretty. but the front spline was loose ......well the bolts to grip the spline are all the way down and it still was loose. Should I just replace that front connector to tightened that spline up ?

That's what you will need to do, It's not uncommon for the pump drive shaft splines to wear like that. The drive shaft is softer than the pump shaft, so the new one will tighten up good.
 
Do you have a closed center valve on your loader?

I"m wondering why it quiets down when you use the loader. Maybe it just puts the splines under a load and stops them chattering. I have never caught one in time before the splines are sharp. Probably need to just replace it, it"ll quit at a bad time.
 
For a temporary fix, I've seen the splines wrapped with THIN sheet metal......like a tobacco can.
