I recently bought a JD 2130 with a 146 loader. The hydraulic cylinders chatter after the loader is operated a few times. While trying to troubleshoot the problem I cleaned the screens and changed the filter. When I changed the hydraulic oil, the level was at the top line on the dipstick. Six gallons were drained. My maintenance manual indicates that the system holds 10 gallons. Is this right? 4 gallons of undrainable oil remain? Or is it possible that a wrong dipstick (from another model) has been accidently installed?

it is a good practice to use a ported hydraulic filter housing, and plumb the return oil from the loader control valve into it.

Ken, The proper way to check the transmission/ hydraulic oil level is do it with the engine running at 1200 RPM. You will find that you can put another two to three gallon more in the system. All John Deere Mannheim and Dubuque built tractors of that design are that way. Including 1020, 1520, 2020, 830, 1530, 2030, 2630, 2040, 2240, 2440, 2640 ect. This will help allot. Good Luck!! Ken, if you ever have to change the lower 3 point hitch seals, you'll find out were the rest of the oil is ;-) There's another drain plug on the bottom, at the right rear, at the lowest point in the housing.
