51A Oil Change

Just changed the oil in anticipation of trying to get my Grand Dad's old A started. Manual says 11 quarts. Well I have put in over 12 and nothing is coming out of the hole on the side. Does it have to be started to move the oil around? Worried about overfilling.

Tried to start it but no go. It appears that the coil wire is really corroded and I will need to replace the cap and points. Ordering that and some plug wires. The current plugs are Champion D-16. Don't know if they still make that model as I have not looked yet.

One other question. In attempting to start it, it looks like fuel was leaking out of the manifold connection to the head. Guessing I have it flooded so I took out the plugs.

Good news is it turns over, seems a little slow but last I saw it run was probably 25 years ago.

Are you sure you had the oil-level plug screwed out far enough..??

Looks good..the clutch looks like it has been real Hot...

New wiring harness is a good idea..probably would turn out neater than running each wire, one at a time..
I got my last one from K&K and it was a perfect fit..!!
You could get it running with only a basic couple of wires..but that would only be to get it running..!

Let us know how it goes..!

The hole must be plugged. Normally the oil should come out at 10 quarts and then you add the 11 to fill the area where the filter sits. That area will only fill once the motor has started.
