John Deere 4440 Problems

Hi,
On my John Deere 4440 it starts fine with the key when the engine is cool. But once the engine warms up and gets shut off and is turned right back on it has to be crossed with a screwdriver in order to start. The other problem it the A/C works but the pump that is ran off the fanbelt shuts on and off on and off. When it is on the air is very cold. But once it shuts off the air is just luke cool. Last but not least on the fan speed switch in the cab it only works on high. Thanks for taking interest.

Check the circuit breakers on the left side of the console. Sounds like a bad connection. look for rusty nuts and melted wire ends on the breakers. If the compressor is cycleing on and of too fast I would say you are low on freon. There is a low pressure switch on there to protect the compressor.

replace the starter solenoid, have the a/c checked with guages to check for both high and low pressure
fan--youmay have a bad resistor in the roof

check on the right side where all the power goes out of the cab my 4030 has done the same thing almost and the connections were loose took off and cleaned up and put dielectric grease on and it worked for a while but i think it needs a new harness now or the at least the block

(quoted from post at 16:25:14 08/24/10) Hi,

Check the connections on board on LH side in front of dash as DONMYEIL suggested. I've seen many loose connections on that board.

Starting circuit is losing amps after engine is warm. Install or repair extra starting solenoid RE170320 RELAY KIT STARTING CIRCUIT, (SUB FOR AT68973, RE38391 OR AT40955)

In addition to checking the connections leave the panel off and run it and then check for hot circuit breakers. The 4240 acted kinda like that and the breaker where the power feeds in off the starter post was fried. I would replace that one for grins anyway. Only a couple three bucks.

Yep charge the freon with whatever gas is in it now and go fron there.
