45 B locked in gear

My old reliable 45 "B" my Father bought new is now locked in 1st. My Grandson was driving it , don't know what happened or how. The shifter will move a few gears, but stays locked in 1st. the Hi-Lo shifter moves but does not make any difference. Its inside, so before I take off the cover plate and start looking any suggestions? All comments appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like the shift lever came out of the slots in the forks. Take the quadrant cover off, shift the forks all into neutral where the slots line up & make sure the shift lever goes into the slots as you put it together. Before you go back, make sure the spring on the shift lever isn"t broken & that the C clip didn't slip out of the groove. Your grandson may have just pulled up too much while shifting.
