3020 hydraulic problem

my 3020 jd hydraulic does not work real well until the tractor warms up, and then it works just fine. when i use the loader when i first run the engine it jerks and makes a noise but then after ashort period of time it works great. i have changed hyd filter and changed the hyd fluid, but i still have same problem. the problem is worst in the winter. does any one have any idea what the problem could be. thank you for your suggestions.

My first thought is a weak transmission pump, being a little slow at picking up the prime.

Ooh yes I didn't think about that,if that's happening (usualy without thinking about it) it will cause a slow start-up...the pump will suck out all the reserve in the cooler, then need replenished after the pedal comes up,,and of course I'm still calling it a sychro-range, if it's a Power shift this don't matter...

it is a early 3020,power shift and the hyd control was added by the john deere dealer when i purchased the loader from them. the loader worked fine for two years. thanks for all your help.

We need more info. Where does the loader receive it's supply oil from and where does the loader oil return to the tractor?
If the trans oil pump is becoming worn from age and usage. Along with extra oil demands from wearing Power shift clutch packs and hardening seals.
This leaves less pumping capacity to supply the front pump.
If the loader's return oil wasn't properly routed, the front pump can starve on a brand new 3020. Let alone a 40+ year old unit.

I have a web page about that check valve problem and its official fix. geraldj dot networkiowa dot com slash 4020si dot htm

buickondeere; the hyd fluid is returned to the filter case and i need to check where the supply is coming from. thanks for your help and thanks to all of you for you suggestions.

Hmmmm. Looks like the dealer made the proper connections and returned the oil into a ported trans oil filter cover. I just hope he used the proper filter location as there are two filters on PS tractors.
The usual connection of just dumping loader oil straight back into the transmission case or into an scv connector. Can contribute to front pump starvation.
Could be a leak somewhere on the high pressure side. Maybe even a partly blown loader control valve.

b&d,
Tractors that I've been around with a high pressure internal leak worked better "cold" than warmed up.

Hmmmmm......yes I did let that one slip.
There has been no mention thus far about cleaning either inlet screen or replacing the filters.

Possible check valve leaking letting hyd oil drain back to sump while not running.

Did you check sump screen when you changed hyd filters?

b&d,
You miss read another post. Maybe you been working too hard.

BTW do you know anything about 24V starters converted to 12V?
