Bought an old iron gear at auction yesterday that was claimed to be a Deere .No markings at all except traces of green paint.Any ideas as to where to look to verify ID,pictures ,etc.

You are right Walt in Jaxsn Tn .I just went out to the shed and with a wire brush found the JD on the hub caps.You guys are the greatest

Thanks for all the help.I went back to the parts catalog and noticed that there is a few different hub caps listed which may be why no JD in the hub.Thanks again . Now for restoration.I suppose they were all green with yellow wheels

It is absolutly an 802 .Mine does not have a JD in the hub but has a square nut with a grease zerk in the center

How about going to the JDparts website and download the free parts manual for the 802 and see if it matches?

It mite be a 802. i have 2 of them but dont have a camera. thay dont have a tag or numbers stamped on them. hope this helps . Bob

Here's a photo of a old iron John Deere running gear. They would have a JD on the iron hub. Even on the later pressed steel wheels with rubber tires they had a iron hub with JD on the hub.

Here's a video of the Ahrent family 1924 spoker "D" pulling one of their John Deere running gear wagons loaded with rice bundles backward so that they can get to it to pull it along side the Case rice thresher to get threshed (seperate the rice grain from the rice straw). Notice the pressed steel wheels with rubber tires. The hubs still had JD on them. The photo of the steel wheel running gear posted earlier also belongs to the Ahrent family. Notice the good sound recording of the spoker "D"
