Swing Cylinder on John Deere 1010 w/Series 50 Backhoe Attach

I blew out the top bearing on the swing cylinder on my JD 1010 Backhoe. The backhoe attachment is a Series 50.

A. Can I replace the bearing in the field without removing the arm from the swing cylinder?

B. Am I asking for trouble if I just replace the top bearing. and leave the bottom one?

My thought for replacing the top only is that I'm thinking it can be done "easily" the bottom one obviously require removing the whole swing cylinder. The backhoe is sitting 1.5 hrs from my house on a vacant lot with no garage or shop to work in....

Any insight is appreciated..

Yes, just stablilize the boom by chaining it to a tree or something that won't let if fall over.

(quoted from post at 21:53:17 07/16/09) Sounds like a good plan to me... :)

OK I'm finally getting around to this.... what is the best way of getting off the old bearing from the shaft...it is STUCK.
