I've got oil leaking out of the shaft fork. Is it a problem to remove pto cover and will I have access to the inside of the shaft so maybe I can put some type of packing around it without tearing out the clutch pack? BTW,I search archives and couldn't find this problem. Thanks.

You will need to remove the rear half of the PTO, be sure to latch it into the run postion" before" you remove it this will keep the clutches together and make it easyer to re-instal, there is a cotter pin that holds the shaft in remove that and pull the shaft out there is an oil seal that is bad, but more than likely the input shaft seal is also bad letting trans oil into the PTO, it's sort of like opening Pandoras box, one thing leads to another..

You're right about the seals...these tractor have most all the critical seals bad...the main one to watch is the oil seal on engine(a double type seal)....most of the time there is no where to start or stop...rubber that is 60 years old has to be inflexible, brittle, serverly worn.
