Ever see this done before

I never thought or even heard of anyone putting a loader on a John Deere D but I guess it can be done. How much work would this involve?

Looks cool. Bet the hyd. are slow.
Saw a new JD 419 loader (will fit new 3005 and the 790)on an old 420 on ebay last week. It looked very awkward on it as they had it way too far forward on the tractor. This loader on this D looks like a natural fit.

Jon, am I not looking at this picture right or am I missing something. Where is the steering wheel?

Maybe that silver lever is like a joy stick and you use that to drive. he say he has the original steering wheel but where does that attach

Interesting, in the first pic it looks like there are cylinders under the bottom going to each front wheel? Also looks like a big hydro pump attached to the side of the governor housing in the last pic?

You may just be seeing the radius rods on the standard WF. It looks to me like the hydraulic pump is being driven off the flywheel with a belt.

I wonder if that's a quick-tach loader? LOL! It looks like it may be a bit of a chore to work on the tractor with the loader on.

How's he steer it? D's didn't come with turning brakes except for the DI did they?

Ha...

If you recall, or have not ever known, that "D" tractors incorporated the front axle assembly to the block, applying exertive forces like this loader may crack the block under operating temperatures.

My '42 D has turning brakes (not a DI), but that one definitely doesn't - at least not in any normal fashion - RonMC

If you look carefully, one of the photos reveals hydraulic steering. An interesting technique; more engineering there than first meets the eye! (PatB)
