Can somebody give the easiest explanation of how to adjust the gov. and carb linkage on a john deere 60, It a 1955, so it has more linkage than a early 60. The john deere and I & T manuel don't make alot of sense in their explanations. Thank you

Disconnect link at carb. Move throttle lever to fast position. Move throttle arm on carb to wide open position. Ajust rod so it will drop in carb arm, then shorten 2 rounds.

adjust what rod? there is a rod that goes to the carb, then there's a bolt in the spring that that head touches that rod? No idea?

The bolt in the end of the long rod that goes form gov to carb,, the bolt toward the dash but on the end of the long rod where the T goes in the cast piece, there is a bolt in the cast that you can adjust, and it touches the spring?

The bolt with the locknut just holds the arm and spring on the shaft. There is no adjustment there.
Check to see if the square washer is on top of the spring. All the adjustment is in the rod.

I don’t know if you have the operators manual for the 60 or the SM2024 carb manual but I went ahead and scanned the carb adjustment pages from my manuals for you. Both of these manuals have been very helpful and interesting to read, well worth the 20 some odd dollars.

Let’s see if this works;

Yeah, but this is just like a 620 type governor, there is bolt that hits the spring, and has something to do with that long rod, if you turn it, it changes the postiont.

You talking about the screw in pic 20-10-23 of the SM2024 manual (3rd page up) called the “Governor arm stop screw”?
If so that screw is talked about just under pic 20-10-24 on the next page.

What's it say to do on that page, for the bolt, could you possibly scan it, the page 20-10-14 so you said, much apprecitiated. 2cylinder

Look at the pages I already posted for you, next to the last page, the picture on the left is 20-10-24, the words under that picture, paragraphs (3) & (4) tell you what to do with the “governor arm stop screw”.

I haven’t done this procedure on my 60 yet, at the time I got it running I just put it all together and used the force to guide me. So I can’t say anything but quote the manual for now. Here in a few weeks I plan to go back through my 60 and try setting everything up “by the book”, after that I might have some more insight.
