john deere 112

hi i just bought a john deere 112 and the electric lift doesnt work properly. it works okay sometimes but other times it doesnt want to work at all... that really poses a problem when im runing the snowthrower and doing a driveway a half mile from my house.what is it that i should chec or replace to make it better? also it has the variable transmission and i have to grab the clutch with my hand to pull it up to go. what should be oiled to make that work properly?
any help is greatly appreciated. i have checked all connections and tested the resetting breakers for the lift also but nothing came of it. i have a sad sinking feeling that it is probably a deadspot in the electric motor just because its going to be expensive to replace and thats just my luck.. like i said any help is greatly appreciated. it is a 1973 also... i think i might have forgot to include that. it wouold be really cool if u could just e-mail me any info at: [email protected] thanks, rickyrednek

There is a return spring on the clutch pedal. It is probably broken. It attaches to the variator assembly and hooks to the frame assembly that holds the transaxle.

You can research all of this on weekendfreedommachines.com. It's an unofficial JD garden tractor website with lots of good information. All free. Parts and manuals cost money, though.

The electric lift can be troublesome. Have you checked the solenoids? Have you checked all the grounds? All the grounds and all the contact points where wires fasten to other parts need to be shiny metal. Use electrolite lube if you want, but clean them up first.

Like Maark said, you probably need to replace a broken spring to make the clutch come up on its own. There is a procedure to adjust the variator, and the belts need to be genuine JD belts and in good shape. The other thing to ckeck is that the middle sheave of the variator slides smoothly on the hub. Clean the hub with steel wool or crocus cloth and cover the hub lightly with white lube.

i have been to wfm and tried to research it on there but it wont let me post anythig or any of that and i have always had really good luck when ive been on here needing info for other things so i figured that id give it a try.
